Paris Couture Week: Valentino Couture Spring Summer 2012

PIER PAOLO PICCIOLI and Maria Grazia Chiuri presented something very different to the other couture shows we have seen this week for their Valentino spring/summer 2012 collection. It was a lovely show and a very romantic and girlish take on couture, working with prints and what looked like sprigged cotton – but wasn’t – in heavy silk and satin.

The Chiffon fabrics with floral essence were establishes femininity, love and romantic gowns with light and luxurious feel. Some of the dress weeding and ballroom gowns. Working with lace is quite a feat, embroidering on lace, adopting cutwork and stitching lace applique embellished with pearls, crystals and lace were beautiful.

Reminded me a English girl in a garden, ruffles and pleats on paper bag waists, the indigenous smocking and stitch patterns on seams, princess lines, sleeves and the back yoke, swirls and spirals were fabulous.
